Spring Cleaning Your LinkedIn Strategy
Refresh, Connect, and Grow in 2025
At a recent Women Communicators of Austin Coffee Break, I attended a fantastic session called “LinkedIn for Growth: Find New Clients & Build Lasting Business Relationships,” led by Carolyn Cummins of Santosha Solutions. It inspired me to revisit my own LinkedIn strategy and share a few key steps to help you do the same this spring.
Just like your home or your workspace, your social media presence—especially on LinkedIn—benefits from a little seasonal upkeep. So, grab a coffee, dust off that profile, and let’s spring clean your LinkedIn strategy for 2025.
Why LinkedIn Still Matters—More Than Ever
With over 1.2 billion members worldwide and more than 1.77 billion monthly visits, LinkedIn is far more than a digital résumé—it’s the largest professional networking platform on the planet. Whether you're building a personal brand, connecting with potential clients, or establishing authority in your industry, LinkedIn provides access to a global network while remaining incredibly powerful on a local and regional level.
Fun fact: Nearly 25% of users interact with brand content daily, and the platform generates more high-quality leads for B2B businesses than any other social network. Whether you’re a solopreneur, creative, or executive, LinkedIn is the place to grow.
Step 1: Refresh Your Profile
Start by making sure your profile is current, optimized, and speaks clearly to your value. Think of it as your digital storefront—it should be professional, approachable, and reflect where you are in your career now.
Update Your Headline: Go beyond your job title. Include your specialty or mission, like “Helping brands grow through creative social content.”
Revise Your Summary/About Section: Share your story, accomplishments, and what drives your work in a way that feels authentic.
Add Media: Upload project samples, presentations, or case studies—these are your visual proof of performance.
Complete All Sections: A full profile sees 30% more weekly views. Don’t skip the small details!
Step 2: Grow Your Network Intentionally
It’s easy to hit “connect,” but being strategic about who’s in your network can make all the difference.
Start Local: Connect with people from your community, events you’ve attended, or local business groups.
Go Global: Follow thought leaders, industry peers, and potential collaborators in your field.
Personalize Your Requests: A quick note about where you met or why you want to connect goes a long way.
Tip: Events like the WCA Coffee Break are great for making genuine in-person connections that easily translate into strong LinkedIn relationships.
Step 3: Clean Up and Clarify Your Content Strategy
Posting regularly on LinkedIn keeps you top-of-mind with your audience and builds credibility. But what should you share?
Educational Posts: Share industry tips, behind-the-scenes insights, or lessons you’ve learned.
Text-Only Updates: Surprisingly, plain text posts perform best on LinkedIn.
Short Videos: Keep them under 15 seconds when possible for maximum engagement.
Carousel Posts (PDF): Great for breaking down concepts or telling a story visually.
Employee/Personal Highlights: People connect with people. Show the human side of your business.
Sprout Social recommends posting mid-morning, Tuesday through Thursday for the best results.
Step 4: Use Hashtags Strategically
Hashtags help categorize your content and make it more discoverable.
Use 3–5 per post.
Mix popular tags like #Marketing or #Leadership with niche tags like #AustinBusiness or #SocialMediaManager.
Bonus: Add “Specialisms” (hashtags) to your LinkedIn Business Page to boost discoverability.
Step 5: Build Real Connections
Attending events—online or in person—is still one of the best ways to sharpen your LinkedIn skills. At the WCA Coffee Break, I was reminded how energizing it is to step outside the feed and have real conversations with fellow creatives and business owners.
If you’re looking for more learning opportunities, Sprout Social is hosting a free webinar on Next-Level LinkedIn: B2B Video on April 29th, and it’s a great chance to continue growing your strategy.
Final Thoughts
Spring is a time of renewal—and your LinkedIn presence deserves that same fresh energy. Whether you're revamping your profile, getting back into a consistent content rhythm, or making new connections at local events, now’s the perfect time to reinvest in your network.
